Mooneye is the band centred around Michiel Libberecht. Two years of intensive touring as Mickey Doyle provided useful experience and enabled him to hone his skills; his charisma comes naturally. As 'Artist in Residence' of Wilde Westen/De Kreun (Kortrijk) he felt the time was right to shift into higher gear with a full band, a new name and a maiden EP.
Michiel pitched camp for an entire week at Pascal Deweze’s studio (Metal Molly, Sukilove, Broken Glass Heroes) to record the EP. Pascal was the ideal mentor and clearly stamped his signature as a producer and a musician. The result: five crystal clear tracks with rich arrangements, wonderful melodies and Michiel’s melancholic voice as the beating heart. Think: Ryan Adams, Chris Isaak, First Aid Kit, Jake Bugg, Villagers, Kevin Morby and… Roy Orbison.
And those songs don't remain unheard. On worldwide streaming platforms Mooneye have embarked on a promising journey. Every week, their songs are added to renowned playlists, with Spotify's notorious 'Fresh Finds'-list as a highlight, The first single, 'This Thing', was picked up by no fewer than four national radio stations: spins on 'Zender' (Stubru) and 'We Will Rock You' (Classic 21), were followed by official rotation on Radio 1. In Holland celebrity DJ Annemieke Schollaardt picked 'This Thing' as her 'A track of the week' on NPO Radio 2.
As for live performances, Mooneye made a great impression at such venues as De Kreun (Kortrijk), Burgrock (Bruges), Cactus Festival, Bos Festival, Boomtown, op Sint-Jacobs (Gentse Feesten) and La Petite Fabriek (Tournai). They also have a series of interesting shows to look forward to before the end of the year, including Trix (Antwerp), Gebouw-T (Bergen-Op-Zoom/NL), Dranouter Muziekcentrum and Handelsbeurs (Ghent/support Intergalactic Lovers).
2019 will see Mooneye follow the familiar pattern of new singles releases and more shows, for which they are are now working with the reputable Verstraelen Booking Agency. In the meantime the boys are working on - excellent - new material for their debut album, which is set for release in
early 2020.
